WSG Celebrates 20 Years of Courage
On September 29, the Washington School for Girls celebrated 20 Years of Courage with over 500 guests at Trinity Washington University. The evening program, emceed by Pinkie Dent Mayfield, featured students and alumnae and honored the dedicated service and commitment of Sister Mary Bourdon, RJM, to WSG for the past 20 years.
This extraordinary event raised over $1,000,000 in support of student scholarship at WSG. All students at WSG receive a full scholarship to attend the school, which relies on private philanthropy to fund its mission.
The program included the debut of our 20th Anniversary Video and performances and speeches by our talented alumnae Elyse Miller, ’17, Shamaria Bell, ’14, and Yolanda Long, ’04 (pictured above) Current students lead all attendees in prayer, and presented their recent book reports during the welcome reception.
The momentous celebration provided an opportunity for the community to honor Sr. Mary Bourdon, RJM as she passed the torch the newly appointed president, Dr. Beth Reaves (both pictured right with Board Chair Pamela Johnson and emcee Pinkie Dent Mayfield). The WSG community is grateful to all who have helped the school reach this milestone, and is committed to continuing its service to students of Southeast Washington, DC.
